Sunrise at Montauk Lighthouse in New York just a few weeks ago. One of my favorite places for sure.
This past weekend I took a trip up to NY for my friend’s engagement party. The whole weekend I was eyeing the forecast, as it looked like Friday could have some good waves. Forecast went from 6 foot to 2 foot to 6 foot and back to 2 foot by Thursday night. The first wave check did not look promising. After a chilly boat ride, we pulled up to 1-2 foot mushburgers. We decided to go check out another spot by car. Pulled up to some bigger mushburgers with about 20 guys out. Not exactly what we were looking for. Usually the waves along this stretch are all the same, but we took a ride and checked about a mile down the beach. We found waist to head high drainers peeling down the beach. Nobody out, no drift. After 1 broken board, a couple miles of walking, and 5 hours of empty waves, we went home smiling. Nothing better than good waves that are unexpected.
Happy Memorial Day 2013. Thanks to all of the men and women who we lost fighting for the best country on earth.

An old one from May 19, 2010. This was a real good day in New York, and was probably shot 10 miles from the closest surfer, aside from my friend Tommy.
View from my house in Montauk. On a clear day, you could see past Trailer Parks. I spent about 8 full summers out there, and plenty of fall, winter and spring weekends when there was swell or to get some stripers. A few summers the beachbreak just a few houses down the block would be pumping with nobody out. My parents owned the house for about 10 years now. Heard today that it will be sold within the next two weeks. Some good memories of good waves and partying. Hoping one day I’ll be able to buy that house back. I’m going to try and get back up for a quick day or two before the sale goes through.
